Nomination filing begins today

For by-poll to Ilayankudi constituency

SIVAGANGA: The filing of nomination for the Ilayankudi by-election will begin on Wednesday.

The District Revenue Officer, A. Sivagnanam, has been appointed as the Returning Officer.

Tahsildars M. Shanmugasundaram and Vydhyalingam will act as Assistant Returning Officers.

The aspirants, who want to contest in the by-election, will have to submit their nominations before the Returning Officer at the District Revenue Office from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All-party meeting at Collectorate

An all-party meeting was convened at the Collectorate on Tuesday, which was presided over by the Collector (in-charge) Mr. Sivagnanam.

The main opposition parties, the AIADMK and the MDMK, which have decided to boycott the by-elections, did not participate.

However, representatives of the DMK, CPI and CPI (M) took part.

Mr. Sivagnanam said that political parties should cooperate with the administration in enforcing the code of conduct.

Steps would be taken to conduct the by-election in a free and fair manner.

There were 165 polling stations in the constituency.

Of them 75 came under Ramanathapuram district.

Meeting of top officials of Sivaganga, Ramnad



Later, top officials of Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts held a meeting here and discussed the ways and means to conduct the election smoothly.

Collectors Sivagnanam (Sivaganga), T.N. Hariharan (Ramanathapuram), the Superintendents of Police N. Rajasekaran (Sivaganga), Pradip Kumar (Ramanathapuram) and others took part.
