TAMIL NADU

No tie-up with AIADMK or DMK: Vijayakant

VILLUPURAM: For the Lok Sabha elections, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) will join hands only with those national parties that commit in writing that they will do good to Tamil Nadu, said its founder leader Vijayakant on Friday.

After attending a wedding at Kallakurichi, he addressed a public meeting there. Mr. Vijayakant said on no account would the DMDK align with either the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Mr. Vijayakant alleged that on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue, the ruling DMK was enacting a drama. While there were expectations that it would make an important announcement in the Assembly on Friday, Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi had merely stated that his party would take a decision at its general body meeting.

He wondered whether such a resolution could be passed in the Assembly.

He called upon party workers to maintain vigil to ensure that the names of DMDK supporters were not removed from electoral rolls.
