“The schedule has been revised to reduce the waiting time of tourists at all locations by 30 minutes”

CHENNAI: Beginning Friday, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) will be operating its hop-on hop-off buses to Mamallapuram in the mornings and the return trip to Chennai in the evenings.

According to a TTDC official, the Corporation has decided to operate four services in the mornings at 9 a.m., 9.30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. from the Tourism Complex on Wallajah Road in the city and return trip from Mamallapuram at 4.15 p.m., 5 p.m., 5.30 p.m. and 6 p.m., following public demand.

On reaching the Five Rathas, the hop-on hop-off buses will operate like a shuttle service between Mamallapuram and V.G.P. Golden Beach at half-an-hour interval instead of one hour previously.

The buses from Chennai will go to V.G.P. Golden Beach four times and from Mamallapuram eight times a day as against the present schedule of 8 trips.

TTDC has decided to do away with the afternoon services due to poor response from the public. Since the launch, only 200 tourists have made use of the services between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., whereas 2,200 tourists have opted for the trips between 9 a.m. and noon.

“Public have been asking us to introduce more buses from Chennai (in the mornings), Mamallapuram (in the evenings) and shuttle services up to V.G.P. Golden Beach. The schedule has been revised to reduce the waiting time of tourists at all the locations by 30 minutes,” the official said. The official said that they would take stock of the present arrangement after 10 days of trial run. The 25 per cent discount on the bus charge has been extended up to May 20.
