New courses in cooperative institutes

TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Union has proposed to introduce catering management courses in the 12 Institutes of Cooperative Managements run by it in various districts in the State from August.

Speaking at the World Environment Day function organised jointly by the Tiruchi District Cooperative Union, IFFCO and Mohan Bio-Oil firm at the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Bank (PACB), Uyyakondantirumalai near here on Friday, the Additional Registrar and Special Officer of the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Union, R. Rajendran said that there was overwhelming response for the various courses offered at the Cooperative ITI functioning at Lalgudi.

One of the students was a state topper and another one secured state fourth rank in the DME course. Mr. Rajendran said that it has been planned to extend loans to the tune of Rs.100 crore to farmers through the primary agricultural and rural development banks during the current year.

The Joint Director of Agriculture, Ponnusamy urged the farmers to take advantage of the presence of regulated markets run by the department of agriculture for marketing their farm produce.

State Marketing Manager of IFFCO, M. Krishnan and special officer of the Tiruchi District Central Cooperative Bank R. Brinda spoke. Joint Registrar of the Cooperative Societies Rama Jeyampandian presided. The IFFCO donated a sum of Rs.One lakh for the construction of compound to the Uyyakondantirumalai PACB. It also imparted training to the local farmers on making compost fertilizers. Mr. Rajendran released a guide on the preparation of compost fertilizers and Mr. Ponnusamy received the first copy.
