CHENNAI: The incumbent vice-governor of the Lions Clubs International District 324 A1, K.S. Lakshmi, was on Sunday elected as District Governor for the period from July 2008 to June 2009.

The election was conducted at the 25th annual convention of the Lions Clubs International District 324 A1 here on Sunday. Ms. Lakshmi is the Principal of Meenakshi College for Women. Industrialist T. Bhaktavatsalam was elected Vice-Governor.

Speaking at the convention, Chairman and Managing Director of Goodwill Communications Limited M. Jegath Gaspar Raj underscored the need for Lions Clubs’ members to spur public debate to come up with solutions to resolve disputes such as those over sharing of riverwater and involving Tamil fishermen. He said such disputes should be resolved in an apolitical manner.

Mr. Raj pointed out that economic prosperity had resulted in a feeling of insecurity among a section of society. The less materialistic a person is, the more secure he or she feels.
