Near-perfect coverage of poll rolls in Pudukottai

PUDUKOTTAI: Pudukottai district has registered a near-perfect achievement in photo electoral rolls, Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta has said.

Addressing presspersons after an official meeting for reviewing the work on summary revision of draft photo electoral rolls in Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukottai and Tiruchi districts here on Thursday, Mr. Naresh Gupta said that about 99.9 per cent of voters of Pudukottai district had been covered under the photo electoral rolls.

He said that the work on the draft electoral rolls was currently on in the district and would continue till November 24. New entries of persons aged at least 18 years as on January 1, 2009 would be made in the rolls. After enquiry on December 4, final decision on inclusion of names of new voters would be taken the next day. The verification of voters would commence on January 2. The double entries would be verified on January 6 and the final list of photo electoral would be released on January 10. Joint Chief Electoral Officer Jayasri Muralidharan and district Collectors were among those who participated. In the meantime, a few members of District Parliamentary Constituency Retrieval Committee raised slogans near the Collectorate demanding the restoration of Parliamentary constituency status for the district.
