MADURAI: All steps will be taken to conduct ‘hassle-free’ public examinations for Std. X and Plus-Two, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu has said.

He is also confident of students performing better this year, thanks to the substantial number of teachers appointed by the State government. “This will have a bearing on the results,” he said, talking to The Hindu on Sunday.

“We will soon have a meeting with the Chief Educational Officers and the District Educational Officers to discuss the steps needed for smooth conduct of the examinations,” he said. The meeting, expected to be held in a week, would also discuss the examination centres and the safe custody of question paper bundles.

While the Plus-Two examinations will begin on March 2, the SSLC examinations will start on March 25. The examinations for Class X (Matriculation Board) will begin on March 18.

Mr. Thennarasu said the students appearing for the public examinations would get five more minutes for filling particulars on the answer sheet. Asked about the demand of the higher secondary school headmasters and postgraduate teachers for a separate higher secondary school directorate, Mr. Thennarasu said: “This issue will have to be discussed with the Chief Minister.”
