8 CSSM students receive orders from Wallem Ship Management

CHENNAI: The maritime industry is brimming with job opportunities for qualified aspirants. Hard work and commitment would reap benefits quickly in this industry, said G. Ramaswamy, general manager, Wallem Ship Management, here on Wednesday.

Over the years, the demand for ships and manpower had gone up several fold, he added.

"If you work hard, you can make good money. You will have an exciting career, you will get to travel widely and also learn a lot in the process," he told students of the Chennai School of Ship Management (CSSM).

Eight students of the school, who were placed with Wallem, received their appointment orders from Mr. Ramaswamy.

The three-year course offered at CSSM comprises basic training in the first year, on-board training during the second year and advanced training in the third year.

CSSM managing director G.V. Ramani Gopal said marine traffic had gone up by about 11 per cent in the last five years and was expected to increase further. "Major international companies are now keen on recruiting in India," he said.
