Man arrested for remarriage bid

CHENNAI: The Chetpet police on Sunday arrested a man who allegedly attempted to remarry, not disclosing his previous marriage.

Police also held his father and mother.

According to police, Ezhumalai (27), a native of Villupuram, who was working in a juice shop on Harrington Road had married Meena (23) five years ago.

The couple have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter .

Ezhumalai’s parents Chinnathambi (55) and Chinnapponnu (45) arranged a second marriage for him.

Police said the marriage ceremony which was scheduled for Sunday morning was stopped by Meena and her relatives. Subsequently, the bride-to-be lodged a police complaint against Ezhumalai and his parents who were arrested later. They were later remanded to custody and sent to Puzhal prison.

Woman found dead at Madurapakkam

The body of an unidentified woman, reported to be around 30 years old, was found at Madurapakkam near Tambaram on Sunday morning.

Selaiyur police said the body was completely charred and that the woman’s hands and legs were tied, .

The identity of the woman had not been established yet , police said.
