CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa has urged the State government to ensure adequate maintenance of the Government Hospitals in Tamil Nadu, including the Government General Hospital in Chennai.

In a statement on Sunday, she said that patients experienced hardship on account of problems owing to inadequate maintenance of the Government General Hospital in the city. All wards had poor garbage disposal as the tenure of the private contractor in-charge of maintenance had ended and the new contractor employed fewer workers. Nurses treating the patients without doctors’ supervision, deficient electrical installations and inadequate availability of medicines contributed to the deteriorating condition of the hospital.
