Many got an opportunity to witness a fine exhibition of long distance running

Udhagamandalam: With the Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) hosting the Andhra Tamil Nadu Karnataka and Kerala (ATNKK) area cross country championship 2008-2009 at picturesque Wellington near here on Tuesday, many of the people in and around the barracks got an opportunity to witness a fine exhibition of long distance running. Some of the spectators told The Hindu that such events organised by the MRC were much looked forward to by both the defence personnel and the civilians. The runners of the MRC did their regiment proud by walking away with the overall championship. They were followed by the Military Engineering Group (MEG), Bangalore, the Artillery Centre, Secunderabad, the Electricial and Mechanical Engineering, Secunderabad, the Army Service Corps, Bangalore, the Army Ordnance Corps, Secunderabad, Number five Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Karnataka, Kerala and Goa Sub Area, Bangalore. Sapper Borappa of MEG emerged victorious in the four kilometre event. He was followed by Sapper T.K.Nishad of MEG and sepoy Padmanabhan of MRC.

In the 12 kilometre event Havildar Ram Singh of Artillery bagged the gold medal while Havildar Clerk Ajith Singh of MRC came second and Lance Naik Mohan Dass of MRC came third.

The Commandant, MRC Brigadier V.P.Kashyap gave away the prizes.
