At 54th All India Cooperative Week celebration in Tuticorin district

Tuticorin: The 54th All India Cooperative Week was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at a function organised by the Department of Cooperation here on Sunday.

Minister for Animal Husbandry P. Geetha Jeevan distributed loans worth Rs.52.73 lakh to 49 beneficiaries.

The credit was extended by the Primary Agriculture Co-operative Societies at Kulasekaranallur, Eppothumvendran, Eral, Melur, Tuticorin, Srivaikundam, Tiruchendur, Nazareth, Prakashapuram, Mukkuperi and Kovilpatti, for entrepreneurial activities.

Ms. Jeevan distributed shields to 13 co-operative societies, which had excelled in encouraging income-generation activities among their members through supply of inputs and services during the last financial year.

The performance was evaluated based on the audit report prepared for the period.

Crop loans

Collector R. Palaniyandi said that short term loans to the tune of Rs.12.59 crore was disbursed to 5,042 farmers through 148 Primary Agriculture Co- operative Societies during this fiscal till October 31 for seasonal agricultural operations.

Likewise, medium term loans worth Rs.9.15 lakh, non-farming sector loans to the tune of Rs.5.41 crore and jewel loans worth Rs.221.35 crore were given away through the cooperative credit structure during the same period.

He said that housing loans and professional loans to the tune of Rs.3.09 crore and Rs.2.01 crore was disbursed through PACSs between April 1 and October 30 this year.

District Social Welfare Officer T. Balamani, Joint Registrars of Co-operative Societies R. Meerabhai and S. Chentamizhselvi, and other officials participated.
