Lecturer killed

TAMBARAM: A 45-year-old college lecturer was killed in a road accident on Velachery Main Road in East Tambaram on Saturday . Traffic police said C. Elumalai of Gandhi Nagar, Rajakilpakkam near Tambaram, was a lecturer in a college. He was returning home from work on a motorcycle. A Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus hit the bike throwing off Elumalai, near Pondi Bazaar bus stop, East Tambaram. He was killed on the spot. The body was sent to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet for post-mortem.

Fatally knocked down

A pedestrian died on the spot after he was knocked down by a speeding container truck on Tiruvottiyur High Road on Saturday. Traffic police said the accident occurred at 9.30 p.m. when the victim, Murugan (24) of Wimco Nagar in Ennore, tried to cross the road. The driver of the truck is absconding, sources said.

Run over

A loadman was run over by a truck at Korukkupet railway goods yard on Saturday. Government Railway Police (GRP) are investigating. Sources identified the victim as Prem Nivaz (30), a resident of Jasmine Nagar in Vysarpadi and employed at the Korukkupet railway goods yard. The accident occurred when the container truck, driven by Inbanathan (26) , backed up and ran over Nivaz.
