CHENNAI: A case involving the alleged kidnap of a six-year-old boy was resolved within six hours by the police. Six persons, including a young woman, were arrested on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Commissioner of Police G. Nanchil Kumaran said that following a complaint from S. M. Sadiq Rizvi of West Namachivayapuram in Choolaimedu that his six-year-old son Razaad was missing since 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, special teams, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Triplicane) M. Ramasubramani, were formed.
According to the complainant, his son, a class I student studying in a nearby school did not return home after evening tuition. At around 9.30 p.m. Mr. Rizvi received a call on his landline telephone. The caller demanded Rs 4 lakh to set the boy free and warned the family members against informing the police.
But they lodged a complaint with the Choolaimedu police, which installed a caller ID instrument at his house.
Meanwhile, all police checkposts were alerted to closely monitor vehicles.
After about an hour the family received a call. This time, the kidnapper directed Mr Rizvi to come to Pallavaram with cash. Two plainclothes policemen, who accompanied the boy’s father, under the guise of carrying cash in a briefcase, nabbed the kidnapper promptly.
During investigations, the police found that the kidnapper identified as Murugan (24) of Choolaimedu was known to Mr Rizvi and his family members. An autorickshaw driver, Murugan also used to drive Mr Rizvi’s car.
In fact, Murugan joined the family members in the search for the boy — three hours before the ransom call.
The police said that Murugan was scheduled to get married in the first week of September. He had planned to celebrate it lavishly. Hence, he decided to kidnap the boy and make money.
The names of the other accused were Mohan (24), Siva alias Sivasankaran (19), Saktivel (19), Chinnathambi (23) and Krishnaveni (18).
