Karunanidhi’s help sought

CHENNAI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to intervene and help the allottees of Tamil Nadu Housing Board flats in Rani Mangammal Nagar, Dindigul, to get their title deeds.

In a letter to Mr. Karunanidhi, CPI (M) State secretary N. Varadarajan said the flats were handed over in 1984. The allottees were paying the equated monthly instalment for the last 23 years.

According to Board authorities, the title deeds could not be given as the final value of the flats had not been fixed. And those from whom the land was acquired had gone to court demanding more compensation.

Mr. Varadarajan said the Board had issued notices to the allottees demanding additional amount along with interest.

He pointed out that most of the allottees were from the middle income group and could not afford to pay more. The allottees should not be punished for the TNHB’s mistake. — Special Correspondent
