“Rajapaksa should amend Constitution to devolve adequate powers to Tamil regions”

CHENNAI: The Janata Party on Sunday urged the Central government to prevail upon Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to announce time-bound steps to implement the devolution package to Tamil regions.

Explaining a resolution adopted in the state executive committee meeting, the State unit president V.S. Chandralekha said the end of the LTTE would be good news for all Indians since the organisation had been helping terror training of the ULFA, PWG and other groups.

The resolution said the Sri Lankan President should fulfil his commitment to the several heads of governments by amending the present Constitution to devolve adequate powers to Sri Lanka’s distinct Tamil regions.

Another resolution said the Congress-led UPA government should be defeated in the elections, alleging that it had failed to defend the nation against the onslaught of terrorism and corruption.
