Action taken

Officials of the Labour Department conducted raids and took action on 241 establishments for not declaring holiday on January 26 for Republic Day.

A release from the department said raids were conducted in 367 establishments. Of this, 241 were found to have not declared a holiday on January 26 and the workers were not given compensatory holiday or double wages.

Website launched

Hotels.com has launched an India website to cater to the needs of Indian travellers. According to a release, the local website ( >www.hotels.com or >www.hotels.co.in) helps travellers select and book hotels of their choice online. Customers are also supported on all seven days a week by a customer service centre from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nearly 80,000 hotels are covered world-wide in the website.


BSA Motors has launched sales, service and spare parts showrooms in Coimbatore. A release from the company said the showrooms are located on Thadagam Road and Dr. Nanjappa Road. The BSA Motors showroom has world-class facility. All five models of BSA eScooters will be sold in the showrooms.

BSA Motors planned to establish 45 exclusive dealerships by February 2009 in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry and Goa.

Camp held

Vijaya Bank conducted a MSME camp recently to create awareness about the schemes and credit facilities available for the micro, small and medium enterprises.

A release from the bank said its Deputy General Manager P.K. Thomas emphasised the need to get borrowing accounts rated by agencies such as CRISIL.

He also explained the initiatives of the bank to provide relief to the micro, small and medium-scale enterprises in the current slowdown.


Andhra Bank organised a customer meet here recently. The aim was to explain details of the different products, especially for micro, small enterprises.

The SME branch had migrated to core banking and it enabled customers to access e-products such as mobile alerts, internet banking, NEFT and RTGS.


Sabari’s Nest has inaugurated “Pudhuvayal”, a restaurant serving Chettinad cuisine in Coimbatore.

It also offered Tandoor, Mughalai and Chinese cuisines. Chettinad cuisine had a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.


South Indian Bank organised its 80th anniversary celebrations in Coimbatore on January 23.


Canara Bank organised an entrepreneurship skill development training for women from Udhagamandalam, Tirupur, Erode and Coimbatore.

They were trained in fabric painting, fast food making and embroidery for three days.
