RAMANATHAPURAM: The State unit of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has urged the State and Central governments to take effective steps to complete the Sethu Project.

Kader Mohideen. held here recently. The conclave said that the scheme was a long felt dream of the Tamils. A full-fledged port should be established at Rameswaram under the scheme to give a real boost to the development of the district. A fishing harbour should also be set up.

The conference urged the Southern Railway to lay a new line parallel to the East Coast Road from Chennai to Tuticorin. All important pilgrim centres along the coast, including Nagore and Velankanni, should be connected through the new line.

Through another resolution, the IUML said that as per the decision of the national executive a campaign would be organised against terrorism. It urged the district, taluk and town level functionaries to organise public meeting against terrorism.

Commercial flights at Uchipuli

The conference demanded the Central government to take steps to allow commercial flights to use the runway of the Naval Air Station at Uchipuli.

It would be a big success as a large number of people of Ramanathapuram, who were in foreign countries, might use the facility for visiting their native places. Similarly efforts should be made to operate flight services to Madurai and Tiruchi from all foreign countries.
