Residents gherao officials

Residents of the Aandipatti Lake colony in Gugai gheraoed the Slum Clearance Board officials, when they went to collect rent from them. They demanded basic amenities to the colony.

The residents complained that they were not getting adequate water supply and the colony lacked proper toilet facilities.

The officials from the Slum Clearance Board had not taken up any maintenance work and that the apartments were in a pathetic condition.

More than 1,000 people, many of them daily wage labourers, were living in the colony.

They claimed that they had repeatedly represented their problems to the officials but to no avail.

When the officials went to collect rent, the annoyed residents gheraoed the officials and demanded them to provide necessary basic amenities to the colony.
