TIRUNELVELI: The Assembly Committee on Petitions (2007-08) will meet here shortly.

The Assembly Secretary, M. Selvaraj, in a statement said that individuals, associations or institutions in the district, who intend to submit petitions relating to grievances of public interest, could send the appeals in Tamil (5 copies), duly signed by the petitioner or petitioners with date, addressed to The Chairman, Committee of Petitions, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Chennai-600009, on or before June 25, 2007.

Petitions should be in respectful and temperate language. They may refer to the grievances that are pending with the Government departments without being redressed for several years.

A petition should contain only one grievance and it should relate to only one department. Meanwhile, petitions must relate to a matter of public importance.

Petitions should not relate to any of the following subjects - individual or private grievances, matters pending before the courts, tribunal etc., seeking employment opportunity, assignment of pattas, old age pension, bank loan or employment loan, request for transfer and redressal of grievance by government servants.

The Committee will consider those appeals, which are within the ambit of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Rules. When the committee meets in the district, factual position will also be ascertained from the officials concerned, who will participate in the deliberations.

The Collectorate will send a separate communication direct to the petitioners concerned in due course.
