Special police team cracked the murder for gain case

The case relating to the death of a 40-year-old woman whose body was found floating in the Cauvery River here a few days ago took a new turn when the city Police disclosing on Wednesday that the lady was murdered.

A special police team which cracked the murder for gain case arrested T. Johnson (38) on the charge of killing T. Regina Mary and recovered stolen property from him.

Johnson was a coffee master in a hotel, situated in the Junction area, where Regina Mary worked as a cleaning staff. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Rupesh Kumar Meena told reporters here that a special team was constituted after it was established in the post mortem that the woman was strangulated to death.

The identity of the victim, who resided at Kemps Town, was established through Regina Mary's sister and brother while they were shown the body that was kept at the mortuary.

Investigations revealed that Regina Mary and Johnson were in touch regularly over mobile phone.

Johnson had allegedly made sexual advances after taking the woman to the Oyyamari Road on the night of August 7 and was angered over her refusal.

The Deputy Commissioner said Johnson, already married and a resident of Panayakurichi near here, strangulated the woman to death and took away a gold ear stud, cell phone and Rs 750 from her.

The accused confessed to the crime, Mr. Rupesh Kumar Meena said while complimenting the special team for having cracked the murder for gain case.

The Deputy Commissioner presented rewards to the special team members on the occasion.
