MADURAI: Home Guards were rendering exemplary service to the society, Commissioner of Police K. Nandabalan said here on Monday.

Addressing Home Guards Day celebrations, he recalled that in many a crucial time during his tenure as the Madurai Commissioner of Police, they had extended their help. The police department alone cannot do everything on its own and the assistance of others such as Home Guards would prove very helpful. He recalled that one of the earliest victims to die fighting the terrorists who attacked Mumbai recently was a Home Guards personnel.

“Many a time, Home Guards have also provided clues to policemen in solving criminal cases. The nation needs your service,” he told them.

P. Karmegam Mani, Area Commander, Home Guards, Madurai City; J. Rajendran, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Head Quarters); and R. Somasundaram, former Area Commander, spoke.
