Holy Cross College (Autonomous)

Holy Cross College, Nagercoil established in 1965, is the first Women’s College in Kanyakumari District, administered by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Cross, Madurai Province.

It is the first in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, third in Tamil Nadu and thirteenth in the country to get accredited by NAAC at the 4 star level in February 1999 & reaccredited at the B++ level on May 20, 2005.

The college has been conferred with the status of autonomy by UGC from the academic year 2007-2008 and has introduced the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for UG and PG degree Courses to make the Courses multi-disciplinary in approach.

The college has a student strength of 1611. There are 95 dedicated & effective teaching faculty and 55 supportive staff.

At present there are 10 UG and 9 PG courses under Arts, Science & Commerce. The Department of Zoology is recognized as a research centre.

All the Ist year UG students are given basic Computer education. New courses started in this current academic year (2008-2009) are B.Sc. Computer Science and M.Phil. English.
