High Court orders arrest of motor vessel

The Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered the arrest of a motor vessel, registered in the Maldives, now lying at the Azhikkal anchorage, Silk Yard, Port of Kannur, Kerala.

Justice V. Periya Karuppiah passed the interim order on an application from Hari and Company, Tuticorin, represented by its Power Agent V. Maheswaran.

In its petition, the company stated that it was an import and export company also engaged in the business of clearing and forwarding.

It supplied necessary items to the ship m v Dhuvaafaru Galaxy. A sum of $2,48,386 (nearly Rs.1.27 crore) was outstanding from February 16. The vessel owners had not made any payment despite repeated requests. Mr. Justice Periya Karuppiah said there was a prima facie case.
