HMs observe fast

Special Correspondent

MADURAI: Headmasters and postgraduate teachers of various government schools in nine districts observed a fast here on Saturday urging the State Government to look into their demands immediately. One of the demands was formation of a separate directorate for higher secondary education.

A charter of 10 demands on various issues connected to teachers of higher secondary schools was raised at the fast organised under the aegis of Joint Action Council of Higher Secondary Headmasters and Post Graduate Teachers’ Associations of southern districts.

A large number of headmasters/postgraduate teachers from nine districts — Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari — participated in the fast and meeting held at Kalavasal.

S. Pounraj, Madurai district convener of the JAC, urged the Government to keep the salary of headmasters of higher secondary schools/PG teachers on a par with Central Government payscales.
