MADURAI: Guest lecturers working in government colleges in four southern districts staged a demonstration here on Saturday.

They urged the State Government to regularise their services.

More than 100 guest lecturers took part in the demonstration and put forth their demands for immediate action.

According to J. Martin Jayaprakash, deputy secretary, nearly 1,173 guest lecturers are awaiting the government nod and several of them have been working for about six years.

He said the vacancies in all government arts and science colleges must be filled soon and the practice of giving consolidated pay must be stopped.

The association would organise continuous demonstrations in Chennai for three days from March 6 to take the demand to the Government's notice.

N. Nanmaran, MLA, Madurai East, addressed the lecturers.
