Vellore Collector inaugurates campaign

VELLORE: There was good response from mothers to the first round of pulse polio immunisation campaign this year, which began in different parts of Vellore district on Sunday.

Unlike the last round on December 21, a large number of mothers of children in the 0-5 age group turned up at various immunisation booths, especially in rural areas. This was following the awareness programmes conducted recently and efforts taken by the district administration and voluntary organisations to allay fears about ill-effects of the immunisation.

Vellore Collector C. Rajendran inaugurated the campaign by administering polio drops to children at Panchayat Union Middle School in Kazhinjur in Tirupattur Health Unit District. Deputy Director of Health Services, Tirupattur, Premkumar, Deputy Director of Health Services, Vellore, S. Rajasekharan, and president of Kazhinjur village panchayat Settu participated in the function.

Later, Mr. Rajendran inaugurated an immunisation camp in the office of the Vellore Corporation.

P. Karthikeyan, Mayor, C. Gnanasekharan, MLA, T.A. Mohammed Sadique, Deputy Mayor, and Dr. Rajasekharan participated in the camp.
