At International Quality Circle Convention held in Dhaka recently

TIRUCHI: A quality circle of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi, won the Golden Award at the International Quality Circle Convention held in Dhaka recently.

151 quality circles participated

One hundred and fifty-one quality circles from India, China, Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Korea, Sri Lanka and Taiwan took part in the convention.


At a function here, V. Ananthakrishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchi, felicitated the members of QC Rainbow of the Boiler Production Area who had won the honour for their case study on ‘Improved method in headers dished end cover fit-up in the manufacture of headers for boilers.’

The study enabled BHEL to reduce the cycle time for making the dished end cover fit-up with pipe from 11 hours to one hour.

Feat achieved

The circle achieved the feat by developing a fixture suitable for various sizes of dished end fit-up with pipes.

Team composition

The team comprised R. Ramya, machinist (leader), R. Devendran, fitter (deputy leader), R. Suresh, welder (member) and S. Surendran, senior production engineer (facilitator).

R. D. Sivaprakasam, Senior Manager, Business Excellence and Unit Facilitator, accompanied the team to Dhaka.

As per the convention of the Quality Circle Federation of India (QCFI), the award was presented at the valedictory function of the National Quality Circle Convention held at Vadodara last week.

A. Nehru, Manager, BHEL, received the award.

Previous winner

Last year, the Moon Circle of BHEL, Tiruchi, won the Gold Award in the international convention held at Beijing.
