Four hurt in accident

KARUR: Four persons were injured in a road mishap near here on Tuesday. The vehicles involved in the accident were damaged by fire that engulfed them in the aftermath of the accident.

Police said that a sports utility vehicle, plying from Courtalam to Bangalore, was involved in a collision with a mini lorry, going from Karur to Dindigul, at Pettankottai near Aravakurichi on the Karur-Dindigul section of the National Highway 7.

Four occupants of the car, driver Janik Batcha (32), Kiran Kumar (30), Jamuna (38), and Jayanth Kumar (43), all from Bangalore, were injured in the accident and were rushed to a private hospital in Karur where they were recuperating.

The sports utility vehicle was fully charred and reduced to rubble while the mini lorry was also damaged in the collision and caught fire. Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Aravakurichi rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

Traffic on the highway remained suspended for over half an hour due to the accident. Aravakurichi police are investigating.
