Foodgrain merchants’ plea

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has appealed to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to solve issues concerning levying of Market Committee Cess.

In a press release, association secretary P. Subash Chandra Bose has said Tamil Nadu had not achieved self-sufficiency in production of pulses and grains. As these products were procured from other States after paying cess, the same should not be levied again in Tamil Nadu. Cess must be levied only on agricultural produce grown in the State, he said. — Staff Reporter
