Conducts surprise check in fair price shops, godowns of the TNCSC

Food Minister E.V.Velu said the public distribution system would be strengthened in the state and stressed that Collectors should give adequate training to the taluk supply officers and deputy registrars of co-operative societies (public distribution) for effective functioning of the public distribution system.

Addressing a review meeting here on Thursday after conducting surprise check at fair price shops and the rice stock kept in the godowns of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation in various parts of Ariyalur and Perambalur districts , Mr Velu said action had been initiated against erring persons.

The Minister pointed out necessary action would be taken on the reports submitted by the14 squads formed to carry out surprise checks in Ariyalur and Perambalur districts.

He discussed with the district supply officer, regional joint registrar of co-operative societies and regional manager of the TNCSC individually and evaluated their performance. He advised them to work effectively in the district.



The review meeting was attended by Swaran Singh, principal secretary, Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection department, C.N.Maheswaran, joint commissioner of Civil Supplies, T.Abraham and M.Vijayakumar, Collector of Ariyalur and Perambalur districts respectively and MLAs S.S.Sivasankar (Andimadam) and K.Rajendran (Jayamkondam).

Mr. Velu conducted surprise check in fair price shops and the godowns of the TNCSC at many places in Perambalur and Ariyalur districts today and checked the quality of rice kept in the godowns.

He directed the officials to keep attendance register, display the price list of commodities and also the phone number of top officials to enable the public to air their grievances and complaints. The message that essential commodities will be supplied on all the days in a week should be promptly displayed at all the fair price shops. All the fair price shops should be provided with adequate quantity of wheat, he said.

The Minister ordered the transfer of a salesman at the fair price shop in Thandalai village, after people complained about shortage in the measurement of kerosene.

At all the centres he made enquiries with the people on the functioning of the ration shops. Swaran Singh, Principal Secretary, Food and Consumer Protection, T.Abraham, Ariyalur Collector, M. Vijayakumar, Perambalur Collector and other officials accompanied the Minister.
