VEDARANYAM: Indian fishermen should be careful in the area near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and always carry the Indian flag and identity cards when they go out to sea, Fisheries Department officials told Vedaranyam fishermen on Thursday. Following reports of intimidation by the Sri Lankan Navy, Joint Director (Fisheries) for the Nagapattinam region Jude Armstrong, and Additional Director (Fisheries) P. Umakanthan, conducted an awareness programme for fishermen of Kodiakkarai and Arcottuthurai villages. The officials said that fishermen should also inform any incidents while fishing to the officials with all the correct details. Meanwhile, fishermen in Karaikal announced an indefinite strike asking the Centre to intervene and bring back the fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan navy a couple of days ago.
