Fire in train bound for Hyderabad

Erode: Problems in the brake triggered a fire in a coach of the Hyderabad-bound Sabarimala special train around 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday. Nobody was injured. The driver had to halt the train at Ingur station.

According to a senior official in the carriage and wagon depot, the brake block attached to the wheel of a second class general compartment failed to get released.

This resulted in friction and, subsequently, fire. Passengers quickly put out the blaze with the help of a fire extinguisher from a First Class compartment.

Engineers rushed to the spot, inspected the coach and rectified the problem. After replacing the coach, the train was allowed to proceed. — Staff Reporter
