To bring down the number of road accidents in Erode district, police have taken the help of visual media to spread awareness among people on safe travel.

Police have made two short films on Wednesday highlighting the lurking dangers on the roads and the ways to travel safe.

The films were directed by Uyir Vellaiyan and the shooting was inaugurated by District Collector V.K. Shanmugam.

One film highlights the danger of careless way in which women ride motorcycles wearing sari.

“We often find a large number of women riding pillion without taking care of their sari. This is one of the major reasons for road accidents. Sometimes, young women are also found riding two-wheelers wearing their duppatta carelessly,” police officials here say.

Another film highlights the danger of signal violation. “Vehicle users often jump signals that often lead to fatal accidents. Every road user should follow the signal system and help police to ensure smooth traffic flow,” Superintendent of Police S. Paner Selvam stressed.

The two films would be released after getting the approval. “We have already taken five short films on major causes of road accidents. We are going to make two more short films,” Mr. Paner Selvam added.
