Farmers press for speedy disbursal of crop loans

Staff Reporter

Dharmapuri: Farmers in Dharmapuri district on Friday urged the district administration to ensure speedy disbursal of crop loans to them.

Participating in the agricultural grievances day meeting, a majority of the farmers alleged that Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks (PACBs) were turning a deaf ear to the complaints of farmers in getting loans even after producing valid documents.

They urged the Collector to instruct the concerned banks to disburse loans to all eligible farmers at the earliest. The charges for hiring farm equipment from the Agriculture Engineering Department should be reduced, they added.

S.A. Chinnasamy, a farmer from Palacode, claimed that the Government had slashed power charges for farmers raising cut flowers from Rs. 6.20 per unit to Rs. 1.80. But the new rates were yet to be implemented by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB). The TNEB officials pointed out that the new rates would come into effect after a Government order was issued in this regard.

District Revenue Officer R. Nagarajan pulled up heads of various departments for not attending the grievances meetings regularly.

He directed heads of all departments to attend the meetings without fail. Officials should be well-prepared to answer the doubts raised by the farmers, he added.
