Coimbatore: The Chinniyampalayam Farmers’ Movement for Protection of Living Rights has planned to stage a series of agitations, including a two-wheeler rally and an en-masse representation to the Collector protesting against the proposed move to acquire agricultural lands for the airport expansion.

In a memorandum, president V.C. Jayapal and secretary P. Jagannathan said that acquisition of 1025 acres of agricultural land will render the farmers refugees in their own land. Meanwhile, the farmers said that a helicopter that was on a sortie over the land proposed for acquisition.

Suspecting it to be a sort of survey for the acquisition of lands, the farmers waved black flags in protest.

In the wake of these developments, it was decided to sustain the struggle by organising a two-wheeler rally and meet the Collector.
