DINDIGUL: Andi (46), a farmer, was hacked to death and seven persons were injured in a group clash in Perumalkovilpatti village near Chinnalapatti on Saturday.

The injured have been admitted to the Dindigul Headquarters Hospital.

The police said that a group attacked Andi and his friends while they were returning home with a bull after taking part in a ‘puja’ at the Sri Kaliamman Temple as part of Pongal.

Eighteen persons have been arrested. Over 75 villagers picketed the rear entrance of the GH near the mortuary, demanding the arrest of the real accused behind the crime, on Sunday. They refused to accept the body after post-mortem and blocked the ambulance that carried it.

Collector M. Vallalar agreed to meet some of the villagers’ demands. They withdrew the picketing and took the body to the village.
