Need for updating knowledge stressed
COIMBATORE: A good teacher training college has to have a strong component of information and communication technology with provision for interlinking several components of knowledge management, skills and other areas of new information, Shardindu, Chairperson, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi, said here on Saturday.
Inaugurating the Faculty of Education at the Karunya University, he underlined the importance of updating knowledge exploiting information technology (IT) sources.
Commitment
“In addition to the IT component, the programmes and activities of the colleges should promote values and a sense of commitment for the profession”, he asserted.
Referring to the United Nations Education Science Cultural Organisation report “Learning the Treasure Within”, Dr. Shardindu said that it highlighted the four cardinal values of education that were present in the education system of the 21st century. The four pillars were, “Learning to Know, Learning to Do, Learning to Live Together and Learning to Be.”
“In our Constitution certain values have been enumerated; rights have been indicated and duties that have to be performed by each citizen have been indicated. Education now has become a fundamental right of our children. Teachers, hence, should ensure not only education, but quality education to children.
Training colleges have to address these issues with a sense of responsibility.”
He said that he looked forward to a knowledge society – which everyone aspired for – to be rooted in human values and ethical norms.
