E.G. Sugavanam retains Krishnagiri LS seat

Defeats AIADMK’s K. Nanje Gowdu by 76,598 votes

KRISHNAGIRI: Sitting Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam M.P. from Krishnagiri Lok Sabha Constituency E.G. Sugavanam retained the seat by a margin of 76,598 votes defeating AIADMK’s K. Nanje Gowdu.

Sugavanam polled 3,35,977 votes (including 10 postal votes) whereas K. Nanje Gowdu got 2,59,379 votes.

D. Anbarasan of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam bagged 97,536 votes (including 1 postal vote). G. Balakrishnanan of Bharatiya Janata Party received 20,486 votes. Except DMK, AIADMK and DMDK all other candidates lost their deposits.

Independent candidate K. Venkatesan stood fifth. Another independent candidate B.S. Chandran got 6,396 votes. M. Selvaraj of Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam got 4,044 (1 postal vote) votes. Independent candidates S. Sankar and G. Latha got 3,766 votes and 3763 votes respectively, while V.V. Murthy of BSP got 2896 votes. Independent candidates Ramasamy got 2,559 and V. Govindarajan got 1,885, B. Sakthivel of LJP, Independents V. Meena, M. Kumaresan and K. Gaurappa got 1,473, 1248 votes and 1075 votes respectively.

More than 3,500 postal ballots were posted by the election department to the ex-servicemen and other employees who were involved in poll duty in the district. Only 21 postal ballots were valid. Seventy-seven polling staff used the postal ballot box at the Collectorate to vote.

Delay

Counting and subsequent announcements after each round were delayed as Observers spent some time giving instructions to the counting staff.
