Do not delay financial aid

COIMBATORE: The All India Confederation of Organisations for Persons with Mental Disability has urged the State Government to ensure that the monthly assistance for parents of children with mental disability reaches them without delay.

According to M. Ravichandran, president of the confederation, this was one of the recommendations that were placed by the parents of the children with mental disability at the joint meeting held recently in Coimbatore.

The confederation has asked teachers who work under challenging circumstances in special schools be given time-scale pay by the Government.

Most of the children with mental disability found themselves left without any care after the demise of their parents. In order to ensure that the children were well taken care of, the guardian of such children or someone from their family should be given a Government job.

These were some of the appeals made by the confederation. The meeting was also attended by teachers of special education and principals of special schools from Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris.
