Detained under Goondas Act

Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner, K.C. Mahali has ordered the detention of two persons under Goondas Act for a period of one year.

K. Gopi (24) of Podanur Railway Colony on May 16 refused to pay the bill for food items at a bar on Podanur – Sarada Mill Road. The accused is said to have threatened people at knifepoint. Investigations revealed that Gopi was an ex-convict.

The detention orders were served on him at the Coimbatore Central Prison, where he is lodged in judicial custody.

City Police had stepped up investigations into frequent cases of mobile phone lifting and pocket picking on town buses in Ramanathapuram, Race Course and Peelamedu areas.

Special teams picked up Suresh alias Suresh Kumar (24) of Puliakulam while he was robbing Manikandan of Rs. 150 at knifepoint on May 23. He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on May 26. Investigations revealed his involvement in various other cases.

The detention order was served on him at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
