Delay due to corrections in the new billing software

Bills dated February 7, 2010 and March 7, 2010 are yet to be despatched

Call detail records will be included in the telephone bill hereafter

VELLORE: The despatch of telephone bills of the landline subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited having broadband connections in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts has been delayed by a month.

While the telephone bills dated January 7, 2010 were received late that month, the bill did not contain the telephone number of the subscribers at all.

The bills dated February 7, 2010 and March 7, 2010 are yet to be despatched to the landline-cum-broadband subscribers.

Enquiries made with BSNL revealed that the delay was due to teething problems arising out of the new billing pattern followed by BSNL after it entered into an agreement with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Hyderabad for the preparation of the telephone bills.

Under the new billing package, the bill for landline-cum-broadband subscribers has been separated into parts, one giving the summary of charges with the break-up for monthly charges, usage charges, one-time charges (previously call charges), the other part gives the break-up of the monthly charges for the telephone connection and the broadband connection and the one-time charges.

Since the telephone bill part did not contain the telephone number at all, the Billing Section of BSNL returned the software, mentioning the shortcomings in the January bill format and the necessary corrections to be incorporated in the billing software.

A BSNL spokesman said that call detail records would be included in the telephone bill hereafter.

The mistakes in the January bill would be rectified in the March bill, which would include the charges payable for the calls made in January and February.

The bills dated March 7 would be despatched soon, he said.
