Tirupur: The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) has hailed the Central Government's announcement made on Wednesday extending the Market Linked Focus Product Scheme (MLFPS) to knitwear garments exported to United States and European Union countries for a six month period starting April 1.

This step, according to TEA president A Sakthivel, will help increase the competitiveness of the knitwear apparels from Tirupur cluster in US and EU markets considering that the rupee was getting appreciated against foreign currencies.

The TEA had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday evening requesting him to exempt the knitwear industry from increase in the load shedding schedule from two hours to three hours a day implemented from March 28.

“The sudden increase in the load shedding hours has been affecting the production planning and shipment schedule of the exporting units,” A Sakthivel pointed out.
