Government urged to prevent outbreak of chikungunya

Tuticorin: Mohammed Ibrahim (56), A native of Ramanathapuram district, stayed afloat in the inshore waters near Threspuram coast on Wednesday for about an hour-and-a-half, urging the State Government to take precautionary measures to prevent any outbreak of chikungunya this season.

Mohammed Ibrahim wanted the authorities concerned to control the breeding of Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes, which spread the alpha virus that causes chikungunya.

He wanted the Health department to step up activities across the State to create awareness among the public of how the disease spreads.

“This will help the common man to understand that the disease manifests a few days after the bite of the virus carrying mosquito,” he says.

He carried a national flag while floating to show his patriotism.
