A day-long entrepreneurship development programme to hone skills of girl volunteers

TIRUCHI: For colleges, involving volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) in community welfare activities through ten-day annual camps in rural areas is commonplace.

The Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College expanded the ambit of NSS to include orientation on entrepreneurship. To the liking of the volunteers, the college NSS unit organised a day-long entrepreneurship development programme on Saturday, with the objective of honing the skills of the girl volunteers in various fields.

Over 200 NSS volunteers took part in the programme that imparted training in various creative craft works like fabric painting, ceramic painting and glass painting. Vanitha Sudhakar, Fevicryl teacher, demonstrated the basic methods of each of these crafts and the techniques involved in them. The efforts put in by the resource person and the students bore instant results. At the end of the day, the student volunteers had smiling flowers, colourful butterflies and eye-catching sceneries to take home as their artefacts.

There was a sense of satisfaction for the NSS Programme Officers of the college, M. Kalai Selvi, M. V. Alli, A. Mullai, K. Seethalakashmi and P. Vasanthi. For, the innovative programme elicited active participation of students.
