Councillors walk out of panchayat union meeting

NAGAPATTINAM: The Sirkazhi Panchayat Union Council meeting held on Friday was adjourned as 10 councillors staged a walk out demanding the Chairman and Commissioner of the panchayat union to make the minutes book available for the members of the council.

As soon as the meeting started, a few councillors including one Selvamani brought to the notice of Vijayeswaran, Chairman of the council, that the members were not able to see the minutes book of the previous meetings. When a councillor submitted a petition to the panchayat union Commissioner to place the minutes book, the Commissioner reported to have told the member that he would show it the next day as he was urgently proceeding on an official work, agitated over this, 10 councillors, walked out of the meeting.

Agoram, a councillor, wanted the accounts for expenses incurred for the various development works being carried out by the panchayat union in the block. The chairman adjourned the meeting for want of quorum as 10 councillors out of 15 walked out of the meeting.
