Disburses welfare assistance to the tune of Rs.1 crore to 200 beneficiaries

TIRUNELVELI: The Minister for Social Welfare, Poongothai Aladi Aruna, disbursed welfare measures to the tune of Rs.1 crore to 200 beneficiaries in a function held at Karumbanoor under Keezhapaavoor panchayat union on Friday night.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mnister appealed to the villagers to construct toilets in every house to avoid open defecation, which was one of the prime reasons for the spread of dreadful diseases.

"Since the Government is giving subsidised loans for the construction of individual household toilets under the total sanitation campaign, the villagers should make use of this opportunity to ensure cleanliness and healthy atmosphere of every village," she urged.

Marriage assistance

The welfare assistance distributed by the Minister comprised Rs. 15,000 each to 19 beneficiaries under the Moovaloor Ramamirtham Memorial Marriage Assistance Scheme, monthly assistance of each Rs. 1,000 to 85 pregnant women under Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Assistance Scheme, Rs.20,000 to a woman under the inter-caste marriage assistance scheme, three tri-cycles, educational assistance to 50 students and revolving fund to self-help groups.

The Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, F. Abdul Razick, the chairman of Keezhapaavoor panchayat union, S.K.T.B. Kamaraj, the District Social Welfare Officer, V. Uma Devi and others participated.
