Constable “accidentally” fires bullet

CHENNAI: A bullet was “accidentally” fired from the weapon of a police constable at the Moore Market Complex, near the Central station, here on Monday. The incident took place around 10.30 a.m. when hundreds of people were moving in the portico of the complex. Nobody was injured in the incident.

According to Inspector General of Police (Railway Protection Force) G.M.P.Reddy, one round went off from the ‘Sten Carbine’ of constable Anandraj. The bullet hit the ceiling.

“Preliminary enquiries revealed that the constable attached to the Railway Protection Special Force (Fifth Battalion) was shifting the weapon from one shoulder to the other when the accidental firing occurred. A departmental enquiry had been ordered,” Mr. Reddy said.
