Computerisation of all DCCBs under way

Representatives of best cooperative institutions receive prizes

VELLORE: Vellore Collector C. Rajendran has said that against the target of Rs. 91-crore crop loan disbursal by the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks (PACBs) in Vellore district, Rs.44 crore has been disbursed so far.

Distributing prizes to representatives of the best cooperative institutions on Wednesday, he said that medium-term loans to the tune of Rs.180 lakh were given by the Vellore District Central Cooperative Bank (VDCCB). While the urban cooperative banks gave jewel loans worth Rs.333 crore last year, jewel loans worth Rs.254 crore were given so far this year. Housing loans to the tune of Rs.40 lakh were given this year. Loans to the tune of Rs.355 lakh were given to self-help groups this year.

C. Gurumoorthy, Special Officer, VDCCB, said that computerisation of all DCCBs in the State was in progress. P. Madhivanan, DR (Housing), Vellore region, said that housing loans to the tune of Rs.7.95 crore were given in 2007-08, while housing loans worth Rs.3.33 crore were given so far in 2008-09. Housing loans to the tune of Rs.21.38 crore had been waived, benefiting 16,670 borrowers, under the scheme of waiving the loans of those who got loans up to Rs.25,000, he said.

K.M. Settu, president, Kazhinjur town panchayat, said that cooperative societies would function properly if transactions were honest and transparent. Ponnambalam, Managing Director, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai Districts Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union, said that the union earned a profit of Rs.125 crore through sale of milk to the cooperative dairies in Chennai every year. A total of 325 milk producers’ cooperative societies in the rural areas of Vellore district were functioning well, he said.

Saroja Thiruvengadam, District Social Welfare Officer, Krishnaveni, District Nutrition Project Officer Santhakumaran, DR, Vellore District Consumers’ Cooperative Wholesale Stores Limited, V. Ramasubbu, General Manager, DIC, A. Chandrasekaran, DR, Tirupattur region, and S. Thiruguna Ayyappadurai, DR, Vellore region, spoke. S.A. Manimaran, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Vellore, welcomed the gathering. S. Sundaramoorthy, Special Officer, Vellore District Cooperative Union, read the cooperative pledge. R. Mani, DR, PDS proposed a vote of thanks.

The Kandili branch of the VDCCB was selected as the best branch among the DCCB branches in the district at the 55th All India Cooperative Week celebrations held in Kazhinjur near Vellore on Wednesday.
