Complicated surgery performed

SALEM: A city hospital performed a complicated surgery to remove an iron rod that pierced through the chest of a 24-year-old woman tourist in an accident near Omlaur recently.

A press release from the Providence Speciality Hospitals said that Gopalini Saradha, resident of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, was on her way to Yercaud in a bus, when a lorry collided with the vehicle near Omalur. The iron rod pierced through the top of her right arm, entered the chest and came out through back.

After rescuing her from the bus, the police admitted her in the hospital. A team of doctors led by senior surgeon T. Gnanasekaran performed a two-hour long surgery successfully and removed the iron rod. The team restored the Neurovascular bundle that supplied blood to right arm of the patient. The team was able to save the life of the patient, as she was brought to the hospital in time, doctors said. The condition of the patient is now stable.
